Library Card Design Competition

Help Mahomet Public Library design a brand-new library card! Break out your markers, colored pencils, paint, or artistic medium of your choice and design a card that symbolizes what you love about the Library! We’ll accept design submissions through the month of February. In March, Mahomet Library cardholders will get a chance to vote on their favorite designs from each age division. Four lucky winners will get to see their art made into actual library cards!

Timeline for Submissions & Voting:

Submissions Accepted: Monday, February 2-Saturday, February 28 at 5 pm

Voting:
  • Round 1: Voting starts March 9 and ends on March 12
  • Round 2: Voting starts March 17 and ends on March 19
  • Round 3: Voting starts March 24 and ends on March 27
Winning Designs:
  • Library cards with winning designs will be available in May
  • Announced Monday, March 30
  • One winner per age group

Competition Rules and Regulations:

  • Artwork must be submitted on the template provided by the Library.
  • Participants may use any medium (e.g., colored pencils, markers, digital art) as long as it is flat and scannable.
  • Participants must have a valid MPLD card.
  • All designs must be original and created by the participant.
  • By entering the contest, participants grant the library full rights to display, reproduce, and publish their designs.
  • Only one entry per person; late submissions will not be accepted.
  • The Library reserves the right to add a logo or Library name to any final design.
  • Designs that contain copyrighted material, offensive language, inappropriate images, or use of generative AI will result in disqualification.
  • ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE LIBRARY BY 5 PM ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH. NO LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
  • If you are using physical media (colored pencils, crayons, etc…) to create your design: draw directly on the provided template and submit your completed design to the Library.
  • If you are using digital media to create your design: download the template and submission form from our website. Complete your artwork on the template downloaded to your device, then print the file and submit the physical copy to the Library.
  • ALL design submissions must include a completed copy of the submission form.
  • Only designs completed on the provided template will be accepted for submission.

Children, teens, and adults who have a valid Mahomet Public Library card (or children whose parent(s) hold a valid MPL card) may submit a design to the competition. There will be four age divisions in the competition, with one winning design selected from each of the following age divisions: PreK-3rd Grade, 4th-6th Grade, 7th-12th Grade, and Adult

Submissions will open on Monday, February 2nd and will be accepted until 5 PM on Saturday, February 28th. Voting will take place in three rounds. The first round will begin on 3/9 and end on 3/12. The second round of voting will begin on 3/17 and end on 3/19. The final round of voting will begin on 3/24 and end on 3/27. Winners will be announced on 3/30. In April, the winning designs will be sent to our library card manufacturer, and physical cards should be available to the public starting in May.

Anyone with a valid MPL card can vote in the competition. Voting will be available on the Library’s website (mahometpubliclibrary.org)

Designs created with both physical media (markers, paint, colored pencils, etc…) and digital media will be accepted. All designs must be created and submitted on the template provided by the Library. Designs made using physical media must be flat and easily scannable. Designs made using digital media must not contain copyrighted material or material created using generative AI (such as ChatGPT). All designs must be the participant’s original work and may not contain offensive or inappropriate images, words, or phrases.

Pick up a submission packet at the Library starting Monday, February 2nd. Or download and print a submission packet on the Library’s website (mahometpubliclibrary.org). Return your submission packet to the library (1702 E Oak Street) no later than Saturday, February 28th.

Only one design per participant will be accepted.
