In cooperation with local libraries, Ameren Illinois Utilities has made an easy-to-use power meter available to you. The device accurately measures how much electricity it takes to operate a variety of household appliances and calculates the actual and projected cost of the electricity used. You may place a hold on the meter through the library catalog or request it from library staff, and it may be checked out for three weeks. Call the library at (217) 586-2611 for more information.

The theme of this year’s bookshelf is “Picturing America”. The award is part of the NEH’s We the People initiative, which supports projects that strengthen the teaching, study, and understanding of American history and culture. Through this grant, the Mahomet Public Library received a set of 19 classic books, including Spanish translations of three of the titles. Should My Child Be Watching This?
Nobody knows your child like you do, but you could probably use a little help in making those age and maturity-appropriate decisions. Common Sense Media, a non-profit, non-partisan organization exists to provide parents with trustworthy information to help manage their kids’ media lives. Common Sense reviews movies, games, web sites, and books and rates them for sexual content, language, violence, and message. It’s easy to navigate and fun to read.
