Negangard Pumpkin Patch

recommended by a Mahomet Library patron

"Negangard Pumpkin Patch is a great fall activity for anyone who's looking for a safe outdoor area to pick out pumpkins and a variety of squash! They're also very affordable and are super friendly! Make sure to bring cash or your checkbook."

Mabery Gelvin Botanical Garden & Buffalo Trace

recommended by Tasha Schifo

Tasha says, "The gardens are so well manicured and change with the seasons. There are cozy spots to admire the garden’s beauty. Buffalo Trace is wonderful to wander through also, because it is Illinois in its natural state. I love the tall prairie grass and the flowers that pop up throughout the Trace."

Book/Audiobook Recommendations

Uncommon Grit: A Photographic Journey Through Navy Seal Training by D. McBurnett, U.S. Navy SEAL, retired

recommended by a Mahomet Library patron

"The book is a stunning and intense pictorial story of the rigorous training a Navy SEAL goes through. The photography is absolutely breath-taking."

Penguin and Pinecone by Salina Yoon & Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens

recommended by Kay Coulson

Kay says, "As a former first grade teacher, I have many, many favorite books. These are two of them."

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

recommended by Lisa Cosimini

Lisa says, "I loved that it's written through the eyes of a strong female...and that she (Leni) is so young, only 13 at the start of the novel. Also, I'm old enough to remember the '70s (Watergate, Patty Hearst, Ted Bundy, the Vietnam War's aftereffects, etc.) but was young enough that all the turbulence of the '70s had little effect on me. It gave me hope, realizing that a time period of discord & division (such as now) has happened before in modern times and can be overcome. Finally, The Great Alone vividly illustrated why Alaska is known as The Last Frontier."

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

recommended by Janelle Couture

Janelle says, ""The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas is an enlightening look at racism in America.  As a white person of privilege it made me uncomfortable, but it helped open my eyes to what it is like to grow up black in America."

Children's Book Series

  • The Kingdom of Fantasy series by Geronimo Stilton
  • The Prince Warrior Series by Priscilla Shirer
  • The Land of Stories Series by Chris Colfer
  • The Wingfeather Saga Series by Andrew Peterson
  • The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

recommended by Heidi Gerber

Heidi says, "These are reread in our home very often!"
