Teen Summer Reading Program for teens entering grades 6-12

June 2 - July 18

  • Read 3 books (one We the People “Created Equal” book, one Caudill/Lincoln winner or 2009 nominee, and on book of your choice).
  • Rate the book (1-5 stars)
  • Enter a drawing for one of five $10 gift cards to the location of your choice, as well as weekly prize drawings!

Children of any age may read, be read to or may listen to books on cassette. Those who reach their reading goals will receive prizes. Any reader/listener who completes at least 400 minutes of reading between June 2nd and July 18th will receive a certificate for display in the library and will also be eligible for a special prize drawing. The special prize drawing will be held July 21st. Reading logs are available at the library.

Special Family Program for children ages 2-6

Thursday Mornings 10:00 - 10:30am siblings welcome/ parent must attend

Preschool Program for children ages 3-5 (by June 1), including those entering kindergarten in the fall

Tuesdays or Wednesdays 10:00am

Grades 1 & 2 - children entering 1st or 2nd grade in the fall

Tuesdays 1:00 - 2:00pm

Grades 3, 4 & 5 - children entering 3rd, 4th or 5th grade in the fall

Wednesdays 1:00 - 2:00pm

Registration begins May 19th and is required for all programs. Register at the library or by calling (217) 586-2611.

The theme of this year’s bookshelf is “Created Equal.” The award is part of the NEH’s We the People initiative, which supports projects that strengthen the teaching, study, and understanding of American history and culture. Through this grant, the Mahomet Public Library received a set of 21 classic books, including Spanish translations of four of the titles, as well as “History in a Box” resource materials on Abraham Lincoln from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
