Reading By Design: Build a Better World Independent Reading

Children, teens, and adults are all invited to participate in this year's summer reading program, which runs May 30-August 15th with prizes and drawings.

Preschool: ages 0-5 years
Read by yourself or have someone read to you, attend library programs, and do special activities to earn prizes. Keep reading and join our Readers to the Rescue! (See below for details.) Print a reading record below or pick one up at the library. 

Elementary: entering grades K-6
Read by yourself, have someone read to you, or listen to audiobooks. Record your minutes in your reading record and earn prizes as you read. Every child who completes the program by reading at least 600 minutes between May30 and August 15 will receive a free book and add a marker to our wall. Readers to the Rescue! Bonus Reading: ages 0-11

Keep reading! For every 10 hours of bonus reading you complete by August 15, our library partners will send $1 to the University of Illinois Wildlife Clinic! Reading really can Build a Better World!

Teens: entering grades 7-12
Read the books, magazines, and newspapers you enjoy or listen to audiobooks.
  • For every 5 hours you read, you can complete an entry into an end-of-season drawing for one of six $15 gift cards. (Winners will be selected after the library closes on August 15.)

  • Read at least 20 hours between May 30 and August 15 and receive a free book!

Adults
Summer reading is for everyone and adults are also invited to Build a Better World!  For every three books you read (or listen to) between May 30 and August 15, submit a drawing entry for one of three Barnes and Noble Gift Cards. Winners will be drawn after the library closes on August 15.

You can count other activies in your entries, too! Qualifying activities include: writing a short story, creating a piece of art, attending a library event, teaching a skill to someone, performaing a random act of kindness, or volunteering somewhere. 

Register online or at the library, and visit the library to pick up your registration bonus (while supplies last) and fill out your drawing entries.
