Calling all intrepid inventors! Design an egg vehicle at home, bring it to the Mahomet Library and compete in a community Egg Drop challenge. The youth librarian will drop the eggs from the roof of the library.

The rules are listed below. (Here is a printable copy of the rules.)

Registration requested so we have enough eggs.

  1. You may build your vehicle using anything from the materials listed below, but you do not need to use all the materials.

  2. Your finished vehicle must measure no more than 12” in any direction (12”x12”x12” cube).

  3. Bring your vehicle to the library without an egg inside.  Library staff and volunteers must be able to load the vehicle with an egg. (Grade large eggs provided by the library.)

  • The size and weight of the design: most points awarded for lighter and smaller vehicles.

  • Ease of operation: most points awarded to the device that is the easiest to load.

  • Creativity and engineering practice: most points awarded to the device that demonstrates the most creative design solution, the greatest knowledge of physical sciences, and the greatest craftsmanship.

  • Durability of the device: most points awarded to the device with the least damage by the end of the competition.
